The founders

L'IFP

IFP is an industrial research and development, training, and information services center active in the fields of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), their uses, in particular in vehicles, and new energy and environmental technologies (production of fuels from biomass, biofuels, hydrogen, capture and storage of CO2, etc.).

Facing major challenges in the international energy sector - renewing oil reserves, strengthening the energy mix, and combating climate change - IFP aims to innovate, develop and transfer technologies with which to supply energy to meet growing world needs in the transport and petrochemicals sectors, lastingly and without harm to the environment, for the whole of the 21st century.

The IFP School

The IFP School fulfills IFP’s training mission in:

• the post-graduate education of engineers,
• training in and through research.

With the benefit of its genuine international dimension and its privileged ties with industry and research, the School offers a full range of graduate programs, in French and in English, in all professions relevant to petroleum, gas, petrochemicals and engines.

The IFP group, through IFP Training, also performs a continuing education mission. In the context of a sphere of activity that is both national and international, IFP Training meets the technical, scientific and economic training needs of personnel in the oil, chemical and automobile industries.

SCI Rueil Vert–Mont (non-trading real estate company)

The last owners of the Vert-Mont Castle, representatives from academia, industry and research, were sold the château by Mr. Tuck’s descendants on condition that they used it to implement a program of internationally-oriented cultural activities, in the form of conferences, symposia and short-term residential courses and to create a center for international intellectual cooperation. .

Vert-Mont Castle

Edward Tuck

The name of this American is familiar to the citizens of Rueil, since an avenue, a square and a hospital all bear his name, along with that of his wife, Julia STELL. It was in 1898 that this couple of American philanthropists, who were to become patrons of both Rueil and the City of Paris, moved into Vert-Mont. In 1903 they built the Stell Hospital, which they donated to the state in 1916; in 1906 they created the Rueil School of Domestic Science and in 1920 they bought the property of Bois-Préau, which they were later to donate to the Malmaison museum in 1926.

A benefactor and patron of Rueil-Malmaison, Edward TUCK was also the generous donor of the funds required to construct the American University Center in Paris, together with priceless collections at the Petit Palais museum. He was also responsible for restoring the ancient monument built in praise of the Roman Emperor Augustus in La Turbie.

In recognition of their generosity, France awarded the TUCKs various awards and honors: the “Prix de Vertu from the Académie Française, a gold medal by the City of Paris, the Legion of Honor: the rank of Officer for Julia TUCK-STELL and “Grand-Croix” for Edward TUCK, who, at the age of 90, was elected a citizen of the City of Paris.

The "domaine de Vert-Mont"

The Domaine de Vert-Mont is set on 6 hectares of grounds in Rueil, not far from the "châteaux of Bois-Préau and Malmaison". A landscaped park with a small lake and a wide variety of tree species surrounds the main building, known as the "château de Vert-Mont". It was built in 1859 and bought in 1898 by Edward TUCK, who then made major changes to it.

In 1924, Edward TUCK gave Vert-Mont to his niece Dorothy MORGAN HALL. During the Second World War, the property was occupied first by German and then British troops.

In 1954, Ms HALL sold the property to the SCI Rueil Vert-Mont, a non-trading real estate company represented by Madame ERISTOV and made up of representatives from academia, industry and scientific research, on condition that it be used to conduct a program in keeping with the ideals upheld by Edward TUCK.

The initial project having had to be modified several times due to changes at the University of Paris, Madame ERISTOV , academic and administrator of the non-trading real estate company, focused activities on the field of scientific and technological research.

Since these projects fitted in perfectly with IFP’s intentions, it was unanimously decided to donate the "Domaine de Vert-Mont" to a foundation, which would retain the property’s international cultural vocation.
